Harry Jones grew up in Philadelphia, attended the University of Pittsburgh for Marketing and Communications and began working in restaurants and hospitality. Little did he know that over the next 35 years what he would eventually market and communicate to people everywhere as a sommelier is something that he is passionate about and how his love for wine and food together are “An Experience”.

Harry’s aha moment in wine came in 1986 when he worked the dining room as Lead Waiter opening the newly renovated and restored Ye Olde Temperance House in Newtown, Pennsylvania’s Bucks County. After the new restaurant’s wine steward abruptly left the developing wine program, Harry moved to wine director and led with his belief that wine completed the dining experience. Here his passion for wine spawned, culminating in “The Mondavi Experience” partnering with winemaker and guest Tim Mondavi to feature a multi-course Reserve Wine, Opus One and food pairing dinner that highlighted the Mondavi’s empire of the past, present and future.

Harry has directed wine and beverage programs at many fine restaurants including those on the Philadelphia scene like Marabella’s Italian Trattoria at the Academy of Music and Zanzibar Blue Jazz restaurant in the Hyatt Hotel, where diverse cultural cuisines required unique wine offerings to appeal to their clientele’s adventurous palates. These experiences motivated him to seek an elevated level of dining in a smaller, fine dining and white table cloth venue. This led him to the position of Maitre D’ and Sommelier for the French cuisine and Master Chef Jean Pierre Tardy, former Executive Chef at Le Bec Fin.

For the past 18 years Harry transitioned to Private Club’s; The ACE Club and Doylestown Country Club where he decided to advance his knowledge as an accomplished wine professional and study with the Court of Master Sommeliers.

This year Harry launched The Cellar By Somm, a brand that is everything wine and spirits, connecting those who are and are not passionate about the world of wine, spirits and food. The Cellar By Somm’s culinary collaboration with Chef Barry Sexton, the Opinionated Palate gourmet caterer offers a unique, first class experience at Your Home or Office, with selected wine from Your Cellar, delivered with Our Expertise.

The continued goal is to showcase world class wineries, the boutique wine producers, female and black, indigenous people of color who are winemakers and owners around the world. In addition to forging wine partnerships with sponsors so that clients will discover an expanded global appreciation of wine and spirits.
